I don’t miss Parliament; my last term was disappointing – Nii Lante Vanderpuye

Former Odododiodio MP, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, is disappointed with his time in Parliament. He stated that he does not miss being a legislator.

In an interview with GHOne TV, Vanderpuye shared his feelings about his last term. He served from 2020 to 2024 and found it unfulfilling. He said it was the most disappointing period of his 12-year political career.

“I don’t miss Parliament. My last term was the most disappointing,” he said. “I was eager for it to end so I could walk away.”

Vanderpuye explained that he felt a conflict between his values and the legislative system. He often participated in decisions that contradicted his principles.

“There were many things in Parliament against my own principles,” he noted. “But I had to be involved because that is what the institution demands.”

This internal conflict made his time in Parliament emotionally draining. Sometimes, preparing for sittings felt like a spiritual struggle.

“Sometimes when I dressed up for Parliament, there was a battle within me,” he said. “Do I have to be there? Do I have to go?”

His remarks highlight the emotional toll of public office. This is especially true when personal integrity clashes with institutional expectations.

Vanderpuye decided not to seek re-election to preserve his values and regain personal peace.
