Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has issued a warning. He addressed political appointees who violate the new Code of Conduct. Disciplinary action, including criminal prosecution, will be enforced if necessary.
Dr. Ayine spoke in an interview on May 5, 2025. This was shortly after President John Dramani Mahama launched the Code in Accra. He stated that the days of impunity are over.
“If you breach the Code, you get disciplined,” he said. He added that any criminal conduct will also be examined. The Attorney-General can take matters to court for sanctions.
He emphasized that political affiliation won't protect anyone from the law. This reinforces the administration's commitment to accountability and transparency.
“I will not hesitate to investigate and prosecute any appointee who crosses the line,” he stated.
Dr. Ayine noted it is unfair for past appointees to face prosecution while current ones do not. “That means you are just deferring their prosecution,” he asserted.
He urged all public officials to follow the ethical standards in the Code. He described adherence as essential under President Mahama’s leadership.
“The straight and narrow path defined by the President must be followed,” he concluded. “I don’t want to investigate my own colleagues.”
