Kwame Asare Obeng, known as A-Plus, is the Independent MP for Gomoa Central. He recently discussed the challenges faced by MPs in Ghana. He highlighted the gap between their salaries and the work they do.
In an interview on Adom FM, A-Plus explained why he entered politics. He wanted to solve people's problems, which led to his creation of the People’s Project. “I think about solving people’s problems,” he said.
A-Plus criticized MPs' salaries as insufficient for their workload. “The Parliament job is very difficult,” he stated. He mentioned that MPs only earn GH₵15,000 monthly, which he believes is too low.
He plans to make his bank statement public. This will show how much more he earned before becoming an MP. “In 2020, I was making a lot of money,” A-Plus shared.
He noted that his daily earnings exceeded his monthly salary as an MP. “What I earned in a day was more than my monthly pay,” he emphasized.
A-Plus concluded by discussing public perceptions of MPs' earnings. He acknowledged that these views often differ from reality once they take office. “MPs are doing very well,” he said, recognizing the complexities of their roles.
