Frank Davies, a lawyer for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, expressed irritation over claims that his client is evading justice. He stated that Ofori-Atta is currently receiving medical treatment in the United States.
Davies told GHOne TV, “I get quite irritated and worried over claims Ken Ofori-Atta is evading justice. Do we control issues of our personal health?”
He questioned why people struggle to understand that his client is sick. On Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, he said, “If I tell you I will see you tomorrow but suffer a casualty tonight, would you expect me? Why is it hard to understand he has a health challenge?”
Davies noted that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) was informed about Ofori-Atta's inability to attend an interrogation due to medical reasons. A letter was sent on May 27, but the OSP has not acknowledged it.
Ofori-Atta missed another appointment with the OSP on June 2 due to health complications. His legal team communicated this situation formally and submitted medical reports detailing his condition and planned surgeries.
Reports indicate that Ofori-Atta offered to participate in the investigation virtually. The OSP has not yet updated the public on this development.
The OSP previously accused him of causing financial loss to the state through various dealings. These include projects related to the National Cathedral and contracts involving the Ghana Revenue Authority.
During a press conference, an OSP representative stated that Ken Ofori-Atta is considered a suspect in four cases. He was asked to attend an interview on February 10, 2025.
Ofori-Atta's lawyers informed the OSP that he was out of jurisdiction indefinitely for medical reasons. The OSP had earlier announced he should report by June 2, 2025.
The official account of the OSP warned that if he fails to show up on June 2, he will be placed back on their wanted list.
