Ningo Prampram lawmaker Samuel Nartey Goegre has not changed his stance on the anti-LGBTQI Bill. He has resubmitted the Private Member’s Bill to Parliament. He is now waiting for the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee to invite him.
Goegre believes that LGBTQI is an abomination. He insists it should not be accepted in Ghana. “I have laid the Private Member’s Bill before Parliament,” he said in an interview on TV3.
He added, “I have not changed my position.” Earlier, Sam George informed the Appointments Committee that the Anti-LGBTQI bill would be reintroduced in Parliament. He stated he would reintroduce it if necessary.
During a session on January 30, he emphasized that the bill is important for Ghanaians. “The bill will be reintroduced in the 9th parliament,” he told the committee.
Recently, President John Dramani Mahama suggested that a government-sponsored initiative could help the anti-LGBTQ+ bill succeed. Speaking with Catholic Bishops Conference, he stressed preserving Ghana’s cultural values through family-oriented education.
“For broader legitimacy and success, it should ideally have government backing,” Mahama said. However, he noted that this legislative approach may not be a priority for his administration.
