I lied about having radio experience to get hired – KSM

Veteran Ghanaian comedian and filmmaker Kwaku Sintim-Misa, known as KSM, shared how he got his first radio job.

He revealed this during The Career Trail programme on Joy Learning TV and JoyNews. KSM admitted he lied about having prior radio experience to secure the position.

After returning to Ghana from the United States, he struggled in the film industry. He decided to explore opportunities in radio instead.

“When I came to Ghana, I wasn’t getting lucky with films,” he said. At that time, Joy FM was the only private radio station in Ghana.

KSM's love for talk radio began while he was in the U.S. He enjoyed both intelligent and funny talk shows.

“I always listened to a particular talk station,” he recalled. “From my house to my car, I was always tuned in.”

When he learned Vibe FM was looking for new programmes, he took a chance. He approached the station and asked to see the manager.

During their meeting, the manager asked if KSM had done radio before. KSM lied and said he had hosted talk shows in New York.

“That’s when his face lit up,” KSM remembered. He wanted the job and felt honesty might cost him the opportunity.

He believed they needed to feel they would lose something by not hiring him. Despite lying, KSM felt confident in his ability once given a chance.

He emphasized that young people should not lie for jobs today. Verification is easier now than ever before.

However, he acknowledged that taking that bold step changed his career path. His first show, The Talk Shop, became a big hit.
