I’ll put my hand in the fire for him – Agbana backs Sammy Gyamfi in dollar gift row

Edem Agbana, the former National Youth Organizer of the NDC, defended Sammy Gyamfi. This comes after a controversy over a dollar gift sparked public debate.

Agbana spoke on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana. He shared his close working relationship with Gyamfi. He believes the allegations against Gyamfi are hard to believe.

“Sammy is one of the most generous people I know,” Agbana said. “Even with little, he shares. He guards his integrity fiercely.”

He described Gyamfi as principled and resistant to corruption. During their activism, he rejected tempting offers that could compromise him.

“He always fought against the NPP government and its corruption,” Agbana noted. “He never budged, even when offers were made behind closed doors.”

Agbana stated that the backlash against Gyamfi is emotional, not legal. “No code of conduct or law has been breached,” he insisted. The public anger stems from high expectations of the NDC.

In his view, the gift incident reflects Gyamfi’s generosity, not wrongdoing. “His generosity became his vulnerability,” Agbana explained. He reaffirmed his faith in Gyamfi’s character: “I’m ready to put my hand in the fire for him.”
