Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has confirmed his readiness to appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 29, to substantiate allegations that members solicited bribes from ministerial nominees.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Barker-Vormawor stated, “I look forward to appearing before the committee tomorrow,” adding, “This is how a democracy improves.”
His claims, which sparked a social media uproar, have been strongly denied by Committee Chairman Bernard Ahiafor, who labeled them as baseless. Mr. Ahiafor formally invited Barker-Vormawor to present evidence, stating that failing to substantiate the accusations could lead to legal repercussions.
The allegations have divided Parliament. Some Minority members have called for the vetting process to be suspended until the matter is resolved, while others, including South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, warn that halting the process could disrupt government business and set a dangerous precedent.
The Appointments Committee has briefly suspended proceedings to deliberate on its next steps. Barker-Vormawor’s appearance is expected to shed light on the controversy.
