I’m alive, ignore the rumors – Weija-Gbawe MP speaks out on death hoax

Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the MP for Weija-Gbawe, addressed rumors about his death. These rumors circulated online with condolence posts featuring his photo and phrases like “Rest Well.”

Shaib dismissed these claims, stating, “By God’s grace, I am alive.” He expressed confusion about the source of the rumors. Someone suggested they arose from an interview he gave.

In that interview, he clarified that he did not imply anyone had died. He explained that someone else interpreted his words that way.

His comments followed the arrest of NPP activist Mohammed Zakou. Zakou was detained over a post regarding Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

Shaib defended Zakou, saying his message was misunderstood and not harmful. He noted that Zakou referred to the Vice President as a mother figure who needed rest.

Shaib questioned the legality of keeping Zakou in custody beyond 48 hours. He asked if it was necessary to detain someone for saying “rest in peace.”

He urged calm and encouraged people to ignore false reports. Instead, he advised relying on verified information.
