The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has indicated that he will carefully review the case involving #FixTheCountry activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor before deciding whether to drop the treason felony charges against him.
Addressing the media, Dr. Ayine stressed the importance of examining the case’s details before forming a conclusion.
He stated, "I will study the docket and, based on my opinion, determine whether the charges were properly laid or politically motivated."
Oliver Barker-Vormawor, known for his activism advocating for political and economic reforms, was charged following a social media post allegedly inciting a coup.
His arrest ignited widespread debate on the boundaries of free speech and political dissent in Ghana.
While acknowledging that dropping the charges is a possibility, Dr. Ayine refrained from making any guarantees, emphasizing the need for due diligence.
The case, which has remained unresolved since Barker-Vormawor’s initial arrest in February 2022, continues to draw public interest.
