I pray a future NPP gov't will end politically-motivated justice

Former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has criticized the arrest of NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, was arrested on May 27, 2025. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) detained him for alleged fraud and money laundering.

His arrest has sparked public debate. Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) question the motive and timing behind it.

Jinapor described the arrest as politically charged. He believes it reflects a pattern of using state power for vendettas instead of justice.

“Quite regrettably and unfortunately, this is another classic case of the Ghanaian democracy circus,” he said. He added that political figures often retaliate against those who offend them.

He warned that such actions erode public trust in Ghana's democracy. Jinapor hopes a future NPP government will break from this trend.

“I’m hoping that an NPP government — God willing — will deal with people by the law,” he stated. He emphasized that accountability should be based on evidence, not partisanship.

“When there is clear evidence of wrongdoing, people should face the law,” Jinapor said. However, he stressed that this must respect human rights and avoid political motivations. “I think that will be absolutely good for our country,” he concluded.
