I want DVLA to serve customers in 15 minutes – Julius Kotey

Julius Neequaye Kotey, CEO of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), has announced plans to improve the agency. He aims to use technology to enhance service delivery and reduce corruption.

In an interview on TV3’s Hot Issues, Kotey discussed the challenges he faced when he took office. He mentioned that there was only one telephone for calls at the DVLA head office. To address this, a new call center will be established for customer concerns and complaints.

Kotey wants to make the DVLA more efficient. His goal is to serve customers within 15 minutes. He believes technology will help solve many existing problems.

However, slow service is not the only issue. Corruption remains a significant challenge at the DVLA. Unauthorized middlemen, known as goro boys, exploit customers seeking licenses and documents. Some of these extortionists work within the agency.

Kotey revealed that some employees are involved with these goro boys. He emphasized that tackling this corruption is a priority for him.

In good news, Kotey announced that the backlog of unprinted driver’s licenses has been cleared. “The one-and-a-half-year backlog of licenses has now been printed,” he said, bringing relief to many waiting customers.
