The Acting Chief Executive Officer of GIHOC Distilleries, Mr. Jones Borteye Applerh, discussed the company's challenges. He highlighted both operational and financial issues facing the state-owned beverage producer.
In an interview with Nana Otu Darko on Accra 100.5 FM, Mr. Applerh shared that only one of seven industrial machines is working. He called this situation one of the company’s biggest challenges.
Despite these difficulties, there are signs of recovery. Mr. Applerh noted that staff salaries have been paid consistently for three months. This shows a renewed commitment to employee welfare.
He also mentioned that nearly $300,000 has been invested in repairing malfunctioning machines. This investment aims to boost production capacity and modernize operations.
Additionally, Mr. Applerh announced a significant milestone in financial restructuring. GIHOC has cleared GH¢15 million in debt over the last three months. This move reflects improved financial discipline and progress toward sustainability.
Mr. Applerh expressed his vision for GIHOC's future. He aims to restore the company to its former state before Kofi Jumah took over.
GIHOC Distilleries produces some of Ghana’s most popular alcoholic beverages but has faced challenges recently. However, Mr. Applerh's comments suggest a renewed focus on accountability and long-term viability for the company.
