The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, known as Nana B, has criticized Attorney General Dominic Ayine. This criticism follows Ayine's response to corruption allegations made by Gomoa Central MP, Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus.
Speaking on The Pulse on JoyNews, Nana B expressed his anger at Dr. Ayine's words and approach. He said, “When I heard this, I was so furious.”
Tension arose when A Plus accused the Attorney General of being “corrupt and a thief.” Nana B emphasized that these remarks come from a sitting MP. He stated, “A Plus is not just any person now. He is an Honourable Member of Parliament who belongs to the Majority.”
Instead of defending his reputation legally, the Attorney General suggested that A Plus was attacking him over campaign funds. Nana B noted that people advised Ayine to file a defamation suit against A Plus but he refused.
Nana B was particularly concerned about Ayine’s language. The Attorney General mentioned he was ready to "go into the mud" with A Plus. Nana B questioned this attitude: “Who says we want our Attorney General to be playing in the mud?”
He reminded everyone that the role of the Attorney General is defined in the Constitution and should be respected. He pointed out that it is the only ministerial position specifically mentioned in the Constitution.
Nana B referred to A Plus’ Facebook claims about Ayine allegedly taking GH₵5,000 to bribe members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee. He stated, “A Plus goes back to say you are lying about GH₵5,000 for bribery.”
He continued by questioning why Ayine would not go to court if he is innocent: “If you are not a thief, why not redeem yourself?”
Nana B criticized Ayine’s comment suggesting all MPs have received money. He called this statement irresponsible and reckless.
He also expressed alarm at Ayine's suggestion that A Plus had involvement in the National Service Scheme (NSS) scandal. Nana B remarked on how inappropriate it was for an Attorney General to speak like a mere pedestrian.
He urged Ayine to use his prosecutorial powers properly: “You can report him to the NIB or police for investigation.”
Finally, he warned that these allegations could harm Ghana’s international image. He highlighted how serious it looks when an MP accuses the Attorney General of theft involving GH₵500,000.
