Nana Akomea, former Deputy Chairman of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, expressed his happiness about Kennedy Agyapong pulling out of the NPP’s “Thank You Tour.”
He noted that Agyapong's presence turned the tour into a popularity contest. Akomea also mentioned that a student jama group should not have attended the party's tour.
Speaking on Peace FM on April 30, 2025, he said, “I was happy to hear Kennedy Agyapong has pulled out of the ‘Thank You Tour.’ The tour is now proceeding smoothly.”
He explained that after every election, the NPP traditionally thanks its supporters. He referenced past tours by Kufuor and Akufo-Addo, who did not include their opponents.
Akomea added that Dr. Bawumia invited all presidential aspirants to promote unity. However, during the tour in the Western Region, it became a popularity contest with supporters bringing T-shirts and banners.
He questioned why a student jama group attended the party tour. He stated they had no business being there and criticized those turning it into a competition.
Akomea mentioned plans for party executives to meet with Bawumia and Agyapong but learned of Agyapong's withdrawal instead. He believed Agyapong's presence undermined unity within the party.
His comments followed an incident where a student from Kwame Nkrumah University was stabbed during the tour.
Kennedy Agyapong stated he joined Bawumia for unity but felt unwelcome. He expressed concerns for his team's safety after recent events.
Agyapong said, “For unity’s sake, I felt it was important to join Dr. Bawumia.” However, he decided to withdraw due to threats against his team.
He emphasized that protecting his people was his main reason for leaving but promised to regroup later to support the party effectively.
