Ghana defender Jerome Opoku was surprised to start against Madagascar.
He played as a centre-back in the Black Stars' World Cup Qualifier. This match took place in Morocco. He had previously appeared briefly against Chad in Accra.
Opoku helped the team keep a clean sheet in their 3-0 victory. This win put Ghana three points ahead at the top of the table.
In an interview with FlashScore, he expressed his surprise about starting. He said, “I always worked and looked forward to my time here.”
He hopes he met expectations and didn’t disappoint Ghanaians or the team.
Opoku added, “I’m super happy to finally make my official debut.” He considers it an honor to represent his country.
Currently, he is with Istanbul Basaksehir for the final round of the season.
