Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has disclosed how his efforts to reform the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) as Board Chair were thwarted by entrenched political and bureaucratic resistance.
Speaking during the vetting of Deputy Energy Minister-Designate Gyan-Mensah, he warned that state institutions often resist meaningful reforms, leaving bold reformers vulnerable.
"I tried to reform Ghana Water, and I rather became the victim," he lamented, highlighting systemic inefficiencies across successive governments.
His remarks follow debates on privatizing the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), a move facing stiff opposition.
He advised Gyan-Mensah to be assertive, cautioning that without bold leadership, institutional inertia would prevail, preventing real progress.
