Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), asserts his innocence. He is confident in his ability to clear his name regarding the $2 million Sky Train case.
He trusts the judicial system to reveal the truth. In a statement, he expressed his belief in accountability within fairness and justice. He appreciates the support from family, friends, and his legal team during this challenging time.
Ameyaw-Akumfi thanked those who stood by him recently. He specifically acknowledged Hon. Kennedy Akompreko Agyapong for his brotherly support. He also appreciated Hon. Martin Kwaku Agyei Mensah Korsah for highlighting the importance of family ties.
He quoted, “blood indeed is thicker than water,” referring to Korsah’s assistance. Ameyaw-Akumfi described Agyapong’s support as a genuine display of camaraderie.
He pleaded not guilty to charges of causing financial loss to the state. His plea was recorded on May 26 after he was hospitalized earlier that week. The court has adjourned the case until June 10 at 9:00 a.m.
The Attorney General's Office filed charges against Ameyaw-Akumfi and Solomon Asamoah, former CEO of GIIF. They are accused of misappropriating $2 million in public funds for a private account linked to Africa Investor Holdings.
This payment was made in 2019 for an urban Sky Train project in Accra that was never executed. Reports indicate that funds were disbursed without necessary board approval, leading to criminal proceedings.
Ameyaw-Akumfi claims he approved the transfer based on Asamoah's recommendation. Neither man has accounted for the missing funds related to this case.
