I won't renew Zoomlion contract if sweepers' salary remains GH¢250 - Basintale declares

Malik Basintale is the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA). He announced he will not renew the contract with Zoomlion Ghana Limited. This decision depends on changing the current wage of GH¢250 for sanitation workers.

On April 25, Basintale posted a strong message on Facebook. He criticized the current terms as exploitative and unfair to Ghanaian youth. His comments came after public pressure from journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni. Awuni has campaigned against renewing the contract due to poor worker treatment.

Basintale called the arrangement a “rip-off” of poor Ghanaians. He stated it cannot continue under the current administration. He emphasized his commitment to integrity and improving conditions for Ghana's youth.

He promised not to renew the contract in its current form. Basintale expressed that it was wrong for the previous government to agree to these terms. He vowed to ensure better pay for workers under President Mahama’s leadership.

He also shared personal feelings about sanitation workers' wages. He said he would be unhappy if his family members earned only GH¢250 as salary.

Basintale invited everyone to join him live on Facebook at 8 pm. He wants to discuss thoughts and solutions regarding this controversial contract.
