I won’t advise Ofori-Atta to return to Ghana – Kofi Bentil

Kofi Bentil, Vice President of IMANI Africa, has shared his views on Ken Ofori-Atta. He advised the former Finance Minister not to return to Ghana. Legal tensions are rising between Ofori-Atta and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Bentil spoke on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on June 7. He expressed concerns about how the case is being handled. He suggested that Ofori-Atta should stay away while the legal process unfolds.

“If I could advise Ken, I would say don’t come to Ghana,” he stated. “Let them try you in absentia and we will take it from there.”

Ofori-Atta was declared wanted by the OSP after missing a June 2 deadline. His legal team provided medical documents stating he is battling cancer. However, the OSP found this explanation insufficient.

As a result, they announced plans to engage INTERPOL for a Red Notice for his arrest. On June 5, INTERPOL officially listed Ofori-Atta in its Red Notice database.

The alert describes him as a 65-year-old Ghanaian male born on November 7, 1959, in Accra. He is 1.7 meters tall with black hair and black eyes. He speaks English and Twi fluently.
