I won’t protect anyone from corruption investigations – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has stated he will not influence anti-corruption investigations. He emphasized that he will not interfere with the Attorney General's work.

Mahama mentioned that 33 corruption cases are being prepared against appointees of Akufo-Addo. These cases were uncovered by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Team he established after the 2024 election.

During a meeting with the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption, Mahama said, “We set up the ORAL Committee. They identified 33 cases handed over to the Attorney General.” He added that special investigative teams are looking into each case.

Some investigations have found evidence of properties bought with illicit wealth. Many cases are at the beginning stages of prosecution, while some have already started.

Mahama assured his Attorney General and Minister of Justice that he would not interfere in their work. He stated, “If anti-corruption agencies investigate anyone, I won’t influence them to drop any case.”

On February 10, 2025, the ORAL team submitted their final report to Mahama. He directed the Attorney General to take further action based on this report.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, chairman of ORAL and Foreign Affairs Minister, revealed that Ghana could recover $20.49 billion from just 36 cases. Mahama also noted that every pesewa recovered will go back into national development.
