Gary Nimako, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of Legal Affairs, will no longer speak to lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi. He has blocked Appiah-Kubi's number on his phone.
On Asempa FM, Nimako expressed his frustration. He said he spoke with Appiah-Kubi before filing an application. Later, Appiah-Kubi claimed the process had been frustrated, which Nimako found unfair. He stated, “How do you throw this in the air? It is not right and fair.”
Nimako explained that he had communicated with Appiah-Kubi before filing. He was upset when Appiah-Kubi later claimed ignorance of the situation. Due to this breach of confidence, Nimako decided to block him.
These comments followed a situation involving Chairman Wontumi. Wontumi was arrested by EOCO after visiting the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters on May 27. He was granted bail of GH₵50 million with two sureties on May 28.
However, Wontumi's legal team did not fully meet the bail conditions initially. Gary Nimako withdrew an application to change these bail conditions for Wontumi on June 2. The motion had been filed at the High Court in Accra on May 30.
The hearing was scheduled for June 3 but was withdrawn before then. On May 30, Wontumi’s legal team revealed they faced new challenges despite meeting bail conditions.
Appiah-Kubi noted that a fresh legal application hindered Wontumi's release. He stated, “My client is not going home tonight.” They planned to address these issues on Monday for a fresh start.
As of June 2, 2025, Chairman Wontumi has been released from EOCO custody after meeting his bail conditions.
