IFEST calls for review of Free SHS policy amid funding challenges

The Institute for Education Studies (IFEST) has urged a review of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, suggesting that parents contribute to costs for the program’s sustainability.

This follows concerns raised by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) regarding unpaid arrears affecting SHS operations.

CHASS cited overdue funds for essentials, such as utility bills and perishable items, which are impacting schools’ ability to reopen on schedule for the 2025 academic year.

IFEST’s Deputy Director, Patrick Danquah, emphasized the need to reassess the policy to ensure schools' financial viability and maintain quality education.
