Reports from Asaase FM claim that Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has been sacked, sparking debate over his tenure.
Though unconfirmed, the alleged dismissal raises questions about security leadership under President Mahama.
Dampare, who joined the police at 20, rose through the ranks to become IGP in 2021. He introduced intelligence-led policing and institutional reforms.
However, critics accused him of favoritism, excessive media visibility, and failing to curb rising crimes, including armed robberies and political violence.
IMANI Africa’s Franklin Cudjoe and Kofi Bentil warn against his removal, arguing it could weaken the service.
Was Dampare removed for performance issues, political reasons, or restructuring? Until an official statement, speculation continues over this controversial decision.
