IGP Yohuno assures tough action against illegal mining

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has pledged a firm stance against illegal mining activities in Ghana. During a recent visit to the Western Region, he emphasized the need for collaboration among various stakeholders to combat this issue effectively. The IGP highlighted that illegal mining not only harms the environment but also poses significant threats to national security and public safety.

Dr. Dampare assured that the police would take decisive action against individuals and groups involved in illegal mining operations. He called for community support in reporting such activities, stressing that law enforcement cannot succeed without public cooperation. The IGP's commitment reflects a broader initiative by the government to address the challenges posed by illegal mining, which has been a persistent problem affecting both local communities and natural resources.

In addition to enforcing laws against illegal miners, Dr. Dampare urged citizens to engage in lawful mining practices that promote sustainability and protect the environment. His visit underscores the importance of maintaining order and safety while fostering responsible resource management in Ghana’s mining sector.
