In response to the increasing attacks on mobile money vendors, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has emphasized the need for proactive crime-fighting strategies. During a meeting with stakeholders in the mobile money sector, he highlighted that these crimes not only threaten vendors but also undermine public confidence in financial systems. The IGP urged collaboration among law enforcement, financial institutions, and community members to enhance security measures.
Dr. Dampare pointed out that the rise in violent incidents against mobile money operators necessitates immediate action to protect both vendors and customers. He called for innovative approaches to crime prevention, including improved surveillance and intelligence-sharing among relevant parties. The IGP's remarks come amid growing concerns over safety in the mobile money industry, which plays a crucial role in Ghana's economy.
The police chief reassured stakeholders of the commitment to ensuring safety within this sector and encouraged them to report any suspicious activities promptly. By fostering a collective effort towards crime prevention, he believes that they can significantly reduce these attacks and restore trust among users of mobile financial services.
