IGP declares an all-out war, orders Regional Commanders to tackle illegal mining

In response to the escalating issue of illegal mining in Ghana, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has declared a comprehensive crackdown on these operations. During a recent meeting with regional commanders, he emphasized the urgent need for intensified efforts to combat illegal mining activities that are causing significant environmental and economic harm.

The IGP ordered commanders to deploy all available resources to dismantle illegal mining sites and apprehend offenders. He highlighted that these activities threaten not only the environment but also public health and safety. The police are expected to collaborate with other agencies, including the military and environmental bodies, to ensure a coordinated response against illegal mining operations.

Dr. Dampare's directive comes as part of a broader initiative by law enforcement to safeguard Ghana’s natural resources and uphold the rule of law. The government has been under pressure from various stakeholders to address this critical issue effectively, making the IGP's commitment crucial for sustainable development in affected regions.
