Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno has clarified his controversial statement about police recruitment in Bawku, emphasizing that it was not a promise of preferential treatment but a call for peace and inclusion.
His remarks, which had sparked backlash, were meant to decentralize recruitment and ensure equal opportunities for residents in conflict-prone areas.
Yohuno explained that his suggestion for youth in Bawku to "put down their arms" and participate in the normal recruitment process was to address regional imbalances.
He assured the public that all candidates, including those from Bawku, would undergo the standard recruitment procedures without exceptions, highlighting that many capable officers have come from the area and contributed to national security efforts.
