IGP directs police to wear protective gear with armoured escorts in Bawku

The Ghana Police Service is worried about attacks on its personnel. Officers and their families are being targeted in Bawku and nearby areas.

In response, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has banned police movement to Bawku. This ban also applies to their families.

The IGP instructed officers already in the region to wear protective gear. They must also be escorted by armored vehicles for safety.

These measures come after two police officers were killed in Binduri. The officers were traveling on a motorbike when they were attacked.

This incident happened shortly after the IGP visited Bawku. He had called for calm over reports of police involvement in a youth leader's death.

JoyNews journalist Maxwell Agbagba commented on the new safety measures. He emphasized that police should wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Officers must comply with these directives urgently for their safety.

A press conference scheduled for today at 9 a.m. was canceled unexpectedly. It was meant to discuss the situation in Bawku but did not take place.
