IGP must respect electoral will – Annoh-Dompreh warns over Ablekuma North

Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh has warned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP). He is concerned about the delay in declaring the Ablekuma North parliamentary results. Annoh-Dompreh said the IGP's current peace may soon disappear if action isn’t taken.

“If he doesn’t do it, he will never know peace,” he stated. “He will not be happy in this country. That one I assure you.”

His comments followed a march by the Minority caucus to the Police Headquarters. They officially petitioned the IGP regarding this unresolved matter. While Annoh-Dompreh did not specify their next steps, his tone indicated seriousness.

“What do you mean by he will never know peace?” he asked. “What’s my line of action? I can’t disclose that to you. But he will not be happy in this country.”

Annoh-Dompreh described the situation as troubling for Ghana’s democracy. “It’s been six months. It has never happened before,” he noted. “I cannot recall anywhere in our body politics where this kind of delay has occurred.”

Despite his warning, Annoh-Dompreh said they are trying to be reasonable. “We’ll give the IGP a reasonable time,” he explained. “We respect him and hope he’ll act within that time frame.”

He also criticized the ruling party for hypocrisy. “When we compromised and allowed their results, they were happy,” he said. “Now, when it goes against them, they say they won’t agree.”

In closing, Annoh-Dompreh sent a clear message: The people of Ablekuma North are watching and waiting. “They are shipping a lot of people… some of them that I represent,” he added. "The people have shifted to a civil approach and are seeking normal rewards.”
