Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has assured officers that all pending petitions regarding promotions and welfare will be addressed once the Police Council is constituted.
He reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing officers’ well-being, professional growth, and working conditions.
Speaking at the Regional Police Commanders’ Conference in Accra on Friday, the IGP emphasized the need for strategic reforms in law enforcement to enhance public trust.
He highlighted key security concerns, including illegal mining, the prolonged Bawku conflict, and increasing violent attacks on mobile money vendors, urging regional commanders to take decisive action.
Mr. Yohuno also declared a renewed crackdown on crimes linked to illegal mining, noting that armed criminals have been attacking innocent people, especially in mining communities and forest reserves.
He further stressed the importance of conflict resolution efforts in Bawku and called for innovative crime-fighting strategies to combat rising street crimes.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Dr. David Agyeman Adjem, Director-General of Administration, urged commanders to embrace modern policing technology, strengthen community engagement, and lead with integrity.
He emphasized that public trust in law enforcement must be earned through professionalism, transparency, and fairness, calling for stronger partnerships to improve Ghana’s security framework.
