IGP reportedly orders detention of 4 police officers for arresting a Judge for a traffic offence

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tetteh Yohunu, has taken action. He ordered the arrest of four police officers. They had arrested a judge for a traffic incident.

The officers involved are Inspector Godwin Dey, Inspector Francis Adjei, Sergeant Daasebre Oti Boateng, and Corporal Jonah Adjubulisah. In December 2024, they stopped the vehicle of Mrs. Angela Attachi during a routine check. However, the case was dropped after intervention from the Adenta Police Commander.

Last week, the officers were called to CID headquarters to give statements about the incident. After providing their statements, they were detained. This situation seems to reflect a power struggle within the police force.

One officer shared details anonymously about the incident. He said they tried to stop her for careless driving but she refused and drove away. They followed her until another vehicle blocked her path.

She parked in the middle of the road and left in another car. When they went to file charges at Adenta Police station, senior officers intervened due to her position. As a result, their case was dismissed.

The detained officers have been informed that only the Inspector-General can release them. The order for their detention reportedly came from high up in the police hierarchy.
