IGP requests collation roadmap for disputed Ablekuma North election

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Yehonu, has made a request. He asked the Electoral Commission (EC) for a clear plan. This plan is for collating results in the 2024 parliamentary elections. The focus is on the Ablekuma North constituency in Greater Accra.

During a meeting with the National Election Security Task Force, he emphasized this need. The goal is to improve coordination between security agencies and electoral officials. This will help prevent confusion or conflict during collation.

“I urge the EC to provide a roadmap,” he stated. This roadmap should include dates and locations for finalizing results. He noted that history often reflects critical moments like this one. How they handle Ablekuma North will impact the entire country.

He highlighted the importance of public trust in the process. “Let us secure not just ballot boxes, but also belief in the system,” he said. Protecting lives and democracy is essential.

Ablekuma North has become a competitive constituency. There have been concerns about delays and disagreements during previous collations.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission remains hopeful about resolving issues. Deputy Chairman Samuel Tettey spoke on behalf of the EC.

“In our latest letter to the IGP, we scheduled a meeting today,” he said. This meeting aims to discuss a roadmap for concluding collation in Ablekuma North. Mr. Tettey expressed hope that today's discussions would resolve ongoing issues.
