ILO, UNIMAC sign MoU to strengthen media reporting on migration - Ghanaian Times

The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

This agreement aims to improve media reporting on labour migration, fair recruitment, and forced labour in Ghana.

It was formalised on Friday in Accra. The goal is to equip journalists with knowledge and tools for accurate reporting.

Dr. Vanessa Phala leads the ILO Office for Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. She called the partnership a “very important milestone.”

This collaboration will help tackle misinformation and stigma around labour migration.

Dr. Phala stressed the importance of data-driven narratives. These narratives will showcase migrant workers' contributions to socio-economic development.

This aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8.7, which aims to eliminate child labour and forced labour.
