IMANI Africa’s Franklin Cudjoe questions sim card re-registration

IMANI Africa President, Franklin Cudjoe, has strongly criticised the government’s planned SIM card re-registration set for July, questioning its necessity in the face of more pressing national concerns.

In a post shared on social media, Cudjoe argued that the Communications Ministry should focus on meaningful reforms rather than repeating outdated exercises.

“What for? Is crime the main reason people buy SIM cards?” he quizzed, suggesting the initiative may be a needless diversion of resources. He revealed that IMANI would engage the sector Minister for answers.

Meanwhile, Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George says the exercise will be queue-free and largely digital, aimed at improving efficiency.

Still, the policy is drawing mixed reactions, with growing calls for transparency and justification for its timing and purpose.
