Policy think tank IMANI Africa and security expert Professor Kwesi Aning have petitioned the Supreme Court to prevent President John Dramani Mahama from dismissing Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare and other security heads.
The injunction, filed on March 13, 2025, argues that such removals should only occur in cases of proven misconduct, resignation, incapacity, or death.
The plaintiffs contend that the President lacks the authority to make new appointments without justification.
They are seeking a court order to restrain the Attorney-General and relevant security councils from taking any action until the case is resolved.
The Supreme Court has adjourned the matter, granting the Attorney-General seven days to respond.
