IMANI petitions CHRAJ over EC’s disposal of electoral equipment

The IMANI Center for Policy and Education has asked the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the Electoral Commission's (EC) handling of election equipment. This request follows the EC's retirement and disposal of these items.

IMANI also suggested that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) may need to assess corruption risks related to this matter.

Franklin Cudjoe, IMANI's Executive Director, raised concerns about how the EC manages national resources. He accused the Commission of "misappropriation" and "wastage" of state assets.

The petition points out that thousands of laptops, digital cameras, printers, and fingerprint verifiers were retired prematurely. The EC labeled these items as obsolete. IMANI believes there was a conflict of interest in this decision, possibly to hide questionable procurement practices.

Cudjoe stated that not all equipment was truly obsolete, contrary to the EC's claims. He criticized the EC for not following proper procedures when disposing of these items.

He noted that they could have donated them to other government agencies or sold them through public tenders.

Cudjoe also expressed concern about sensitive voter information being disposed of improperly. Without proper data protection protocols, this information could be misused for harmful purposes.
