IMANI Africa has warned that missing equipment from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) could worsen power outages, affecting businesses and households.

Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor confirmed that 1,300 ECG containers were unaccounted for, prompting investigations.

During a visit to Tema Port, the Minister expressed disappointment, calling the situation unacceptable. A government committee has been formed to probe ECG’s procurement and inventory management.

Reports indicate some missing equipment has been found in private warehouses, with 40 containers recovered in Kpone.

Budget cuts in the energy sector, from GHS500 million to GHS250 million, add to concerns.

IMANI warns that if the missing equipment is not recovered, delays in electricity projects could lead to prolonged outages, impacting productivity nationwide.
