IMF endorses Ghana’s swift progress under Mahama

On Saturday, April 26, Ghana celebrated a proud moment. Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), praised Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and his team. She commended their strong leadership and commitment to improving Ghana’s economy.

During the meeting, Ms. Georgieva emphasized Ghana's challenging journey. She noted the real progress being made despite significant obstacles. She called the IMF a “strong partner” and reaffirmed its support for Ghana’s recovery efforts.

This praise coincided with Ghana securing a staff-level agreement with the IMF. This agreement is part of the fourth review of its program. Once approved by the IMF Board, it will unlock about $370 million to boost the economy.

The breakthrough reflects a determined effort by President Mahama’s administration. They aim to rebuild trust, restore fiscal discipline, and instill confidence in Ghana’s economy.

Since taking office, Dr. Forson and his team have accelerated reforms. They have achieved key milestones ahead of schedule.

A major focus has been addressing unpaid bills from 2024. They are also working to plug financial leaks and strengthen spending controls for sustainability.

Key figures in Ghana’s economic management attended the meeting as well. These included Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama and Presidential Advisor Seth Terkper. NDPC Chairman Dr. Nii Moi Thompson was also present, contributing to the country’s renewed sense of purpose.

Ghana's economic recovery journey continues, but recent IMF endorsement brings hope for brighter days ahead.
