IMF review exposes NDC’s falsehoods on Ghana’s economy – Sammy Awuku

Akuapem North MP Sammy Awuku believes Ghana's economy is rebounding. He credits this to the policies of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration. He cites a recent endorsement from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as evidence of progress.

Awuku responded to the IMF’s latest review by criticizing the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). He accused them of spreading misinformation about the economy.

“The 4th review meeting between the IMF and our government disproves NDC claims,” he said. The NDC had claimed that the economy was failing and that the IMF program was breached. However, Awuku argues that current numbers tell a different story.

He highlighted key points from the IMF report. The report shows a 5.7% economic growth in 2024, exceeding the 4% target. “This isn’t just recovery; it’s resilience,” he stated.

Awuku noted that mining and construction sectors are thriving. Gold exports have increased, and remittances have strengthened Ghana's external position. Our international reserves now stand at $8.9 billion, a recent high.

Despite critics claiming there is a crisis, Awuku insists data tells another story. “While others spread tales of crisis, facts show one truth: NPP laid the groundwork for recovery,” he added. He believes NPP will return stronger in 2028.
