Ibrahim Mahama donates food items to Sunyani Central Prison inmates

Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, CEO of Engineers and Planners Limited, donated food items to inmates at Sunyani Central Prisons.

Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboa presented the donation on Mr. Mahama's behalf. He said the donation would help supplement the food provided to inmates.

The donation included 70 bags of 25kg rice, 36 cartons of cooking oil, 15 boxes of mackerel, and 15 boxes of tomato paste.

He encouraged inmates to pray for Mr. Mahama and his brother, President John Mahama.

Deputy Director of Prisons Thompson Otsyokpo thanked Mr. Mahama for the donations. He noted that it would greatly help with the inmates' feeding needs.

The donations were made during a ceremony honoring DDP Williams Kulah, who recently retired after 32 years of service. The event was attended by clergy, politicians, and security officers.

Minister Addae Akwaboa praised DDP Kulah for his humility and dedication as a prison officer. He urged prison personnel to follow Kulah's example in their service to Ghana.

The Minister presented a citation from the Bono Regional Coordinating Council for Kulah’s selfless service.

Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Catholic Bishop of Sunyani, spoke about the lack of appreciation for prison officers' work. He expressed concern over disproportionate punishments given to some inmates.

The Bishop called for legal reforms to allow community service as punishment instead of long prison sentences. He believes this approach would be more productive and reformative.

"Let's show compassion towards them as Jesus Christ did," he urged.
