Ibrahim Mahama Sues Bright Simons for Defamation
Businessman Ibrahim Mahama has filed a defamation lawsuit against Bright Simons. Simons is the Vice President of IMANI Africa.
Mahama accuses Simons of making false and malicious publications. These claims have harmed his reputation and that of his company, Engineers and Planners (E&P).
The lawsuit stems from an article titled “Ghana Provides a Lesson in How Not to Nationalise a Gold Mine.” This article was published on Simons' website.
In the article, it was claimed that E&P faced financial distress due to halted operations at the Damang gold mine. It also suggested that creditors were worried about this situation.
Additionally, the article implied that Mahama improperly benefited from political connections. It stated that E&P received undue favor in government mining policies.
Mahama seeks a public retraction and apology on digital platforms. He also wants a full-page ad in the Daily Graphic for six consecutive editions over three months.
Furthermore, he requests a perpetual injunction against Simons for future defamatory remarks. Mahama is also seeking damages worth GH¢10 million.
