Mr. Benjamin Kofi Quashie chairs the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Council of Elders in South Africa. He has criticized former President Nana Akufo-Addo over Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo's suspension.
In an interview on Kessben TV, Quashie called Akufo-Addo's actions "reckless." He believes these actions have led to the current turmoil surrounding the Chief Justice.
Quashie suggested that people should confront Akufo-Addo about his recklessness. He mentioned that they should visit him at his home in Nima.
He also questioned members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). These members had previously claimed to defend justice and integrity.
“Where were the NPP lawyers now parading themselves as lawyers of conscience?” he asked. His comments reflect frustrations over judicial appointments and their consequences.
Quashie discussed the public outcry regarding the Chief Justice’s suspension. He stated, “If Akufo-Addo did no wrong in appointing judges, then President Mahama can sack them.”
He implied that if the original appointments were flawed, Mahama's actions were justified.
