Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin is the Minority Leader and MP for Effutu. He recently shared his future plans in an interview. He wants to preach the word of God after his political career.
Afenyo-Markin told broadcaster Kafui Dey, “If I stop being a politician today, I will go into ministry.” He has dreamed about this for a long time. He feels confident because he has experienced God's presence in his life.
He recalled moments from his school days when he felt God's support. “When I see crises, it doesn’t shake me,” he said. His faith helps him stay strong during tough times.
During the interview, Afenyo-Markin became emotional while discussing his sister's death. He explained that she fell ill while they were with their grandmother. His grandmother chose to pray instead of taking her to the hospital.
Eventually, his sister's condition worsened. She could no longer walk and had to crawl on the floor. Alarmed by this, their grandmother took her to a nearby clinic that night.
Afenyo-Markin struggled to share this painful memory. They spent the night at the clinic but received heartbreaking news in the morning: his sister had died.
He described how many people came to mourn her passing and how she was buried outside their home. Afterward, he went to live with his grandfather in the village.
There was no school there, so his grandfather took him hunting at midnight. Afenyo-Markin fondly remembered how much love and care he received during that time as he relived these memories with tears in his eyes.
