Dr. Frank Bannor, a Development Economist, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to dismiss Sammy Gyamfi. Gyamfi is the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board.
Bannor believes that if Mahama values his integrity, he should act quickly. He claims Gyamfi's lavish lifestyle violates Mahama’s Code of Conduct for appointees.
In an interview with ABCNews, Bannor stated that Mahama recently launched a Code of Ethics. This code states that any appointee living opulently will be dismissed immediately. Since Gyamfi has violated this code, he should be removed from office.
Bannor emphasized that the government should prioritize modesty and respect for Ghanaians. He noted that public resources belong to the people and should not be wasted on extravagance.
He added that this situation is a test for President Mahama's commitment to protecting public funds. His comments follow scrutiny of Gyamfi after a video surfaced online.
The video shows Gyamfi gifting large sums of money to Patricia Asiedua, known as Nana Agradaa. In the clip shared on social media platform X, Gyamfi stands next to his white Range Rover while counting dollars in his car.
Nana Agradaa insisted he give her all the money instead of just some. She then took the cash from him and flaunted it to bystanders, saying she had taken dollars from him.
Sammy Gyamfi has since issued a public apology for his actions. He expressed regret over what he called an unfortunate act of indiscretion. He explained that lending money is part of his daily routine.
Reports indicate that Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, has summoned Gyamfi regarding the viral video incident.
