“If campaign donations mean corruption, then 276 MPs are thieves – including you” – AG to A Plus

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, responded to accusations from Gomoa Central MP, Kwame Asare Obeng, known as A Plus.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, April 30th, Dr. Ayine dismissed the claims. He said they were based on campaign donations he received before the last elections.

He stated, “I am reliably informed that his basis of saying that I am corrupt and a thief is that I took campaign contributions from a businessman at East Legon known as Dr. Sleg.”

Dr. Ayine argued that accepting donations for political campaigns is not corruption. He said, “If receiving donations or getting a pickup for a campaign is thievery or corruption, then there are 276 thieves in Parliament.”

He warned A Plus to be careful with public accusations. Dr. Ayine expressed his readiness to confront him directly.

“But let him be warned that in my hometown we do not fear mud being thrown at us,” he said. “We walk into the mud to deal with the person doing the mud-slinging.”

“I am prepared to walk into the mud with A Plus,” he added. “What I have about him and the National Service scandal, he should come and tell you.”

Dr. Ayine challenged A Plus to respond to these allegations directly.
