If push comes to shove Adu Boahene would ‘snitch’ – Atta Akyea

Samuel Atta Akyea is the lawyer for Kwabena Adu Boahene. Adu Boahene is the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau. Akyea has stated that his client may reveal national security secrets to protect himself.

He said, “If push comes to shove, Kwabena Adu-Boahene would have no choice but to divulge top national security secrets to defend himself.” This statement was reported by JOY FM.

Akyea, a former Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South, warned the National Security Council about potential threats. He believes prosecuting Adu Boahene could harm Ghana’s national security.

He also claimed that this prosecution violates Ghana's laws, including Act 1030 and Act 1040. These acts govern intelligence operations and provide protections for officials.

In a letter, Akyea noted that the Attorney-General’s case involves national security matters. He emphasized that the intended prosecution breaches relevant laws.

Adu Boahene is currently in custody at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). His lawyer submitted a memorandum regarding his situation and requested professionalism in evaluating it.

Recently, Adu Boahene was granted bail by an Accra High Court but was re-arrested shortly after. This new arrest relates to a different crime involving internet services provided to Ghana Water Limited.

The Accra High Court has instructed prosecutors to file all witness statements against Adu Boahene by May 26, 2025. Justice John Eugene Nyadu Nyante expressed concerns about the rights of the accused and urged for an expedited trial.
