Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the former Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, has questioned NPP members. They have been criticizing former President Akufo-Addo for the party's defeat in the 2024 elections.
She asked if the NPP is worth supporting if they do not appreciate his efforts. Ursula noted that Akufo-Addo held the party together for 16 years. This includes 8 years in opposition and 8 years in government.
She highlighted that he financed party structures every month during this time. He sent monthly allowances to every constituency, region, and national office.
In a Facebook post shared by NDC Edudzi Tamakloe, she expressed gratitude to those blaming him. She said they would have credited him if they had won.
Ursula reminded NPP members of Akufo-Addo’s ambition to hand over power to an NPP president. She emphasized that he supported the party financially for eight years. This included providing monthly top-ups for all MPs, which exceeded their salaries.
She criticized how he is now viewed as a villain despite his contributions. Ursula stated that he kept essential services running and created jobs. She questioned why someone who built more roads than any predecessor is seen negatively.
Further defending Akufo-Addo’s legacy, she mentioned his sacrifices for democracy and rule of law. She acknowledged that while he made mistakes, expectations were high because of his status.
Ursula concluded by asking if the NPP is worth supporting if they do not recognize leaders like Akufo-Addo.
