The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, criticized the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). This was over their attempted arrest of Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the MP for Assin South.
The incident happened at the MP’s home. Salam Mustapha reacted strongly to the security officers' actions. He questioned their conduct during the attempted arrest.
Mustapha insisted that the MP had committed no crime. He argued that law enforcement should not intimidate or act unlawfully. “What is the crime here?” he asked, noting that the MP raised important issues about drug abuse in Ghana.
He urged respect for due process. Law enforcement must operate within legal boundaries to earn respect, he said. “If people are not following the prescribed law, they are committing an illegality,” he emphasized in an interview with Channel One TV.
Salam Mustapha warned against suppressing voices within the NPP. “I am activating the entire youth of this party,” he declared. He added that they would fight against any injustice, even if it meant sacrificing themselves.
He stated that all parties, including state security agencies, must respect the rule of law.
