If you’re catching a wild dog, you arm yourself – Terlabi on Wontumi standoff

The arrival of armed officers at Chairman Wontumi’s home has sparked debate. Deputy Interior Minister Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi believes their approach was justified. He cited Wontumi’s public behavior as a reason for caution.

Terlabi compared the operation to restraining a “wild dog.” He explained that security forces needed to be ready for any reaction. This was due to Wontumi’s past defiance and controversial statements.

He clarified that the visit was not random. It was based on intelligence and aimed to invite Wontumi for questioning. The intent was not to intimidate or cause harm.

Terlabi stressed that no one is above the law, including political figures. Security institutions have the right and duty to act when necessary.

“The security services are on top of their job,” he said in an interview with Citi FM. He emphasized that officers did not arrive without reason or preparation.

Wontumi criticized how the invitation was handled. He questioned why armed men came to his home for a simple request.

However, Terlabi argued that the public would blame security forces if something went wrong. He noted Wontumi's history of challenging authorities, including the President, made caution essential.
